Liberty, 5th September 2009

Celebrating the contribution of Deaf and disabled people to London's culture

The Liberty Festival 2009 saw Trafalgar Square transformed into an accessible performance space showcasing the talents of Deaf and Disabled artists. Visitors were thrilled by an exciting programme of performances and workshops with zones for street arts; comedy, cabaret and spoken word; music; visual arts and children's arts plus food, stalls and displays. Highlights included new work by Marc Brew Company and Extant (both pieces developed in association with Greenwich and Docklands International Festival), aerial dance performance by Blue Eyed Soul plus live music from Spaceships are Cool, Denise Leigh and Minika Green.

Midas supplied two 60KVA machines linked via an AMF Panel (Automatic Mains Failure) supplying stage / production and ancillary power.


Eid, 26th September 2009

In the fourth year of Eid celebrations on Trafalgar Square - a programme of live entertainment took place. Along with a main stage there were stalls and exhibitions to visit, plus a children's play area and prayer marquees for adults as well as theatre and storytelling.

Eid in the Square celebrates Eid ul-Fitr, the Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. It is a day of both cultural significant in Islamic life as well as an occasion for spiritual blessings. It is a festival of great happiness and celebration and is rejoiced by millions of Muslims around the world, bringing communities, families and friends together.


London Week of Peace 27th September 2009

The LONDON WEEK OF PEACE (LWOP) is an annual week of high profile events, initiatives and action organised principally by communities and individuals but also engaging organisations, businesses and public agencies, to promote greater community cohesion, safety and peace across the capital. It will take place from the 20th - 27th of September 2009. Culminating on the 27th with a service, concert and talent quest on Trafalgar Square.

Midas were delighted to be involved with both events over the weekend supplying uninterruptable stage power via two 200KVA machines synced, running into the back of Star Hire's 'Morbit' powering sound and light provided by Stage Electrics. The on site caterers and traders to both events were serviced by a separate supply generated by a 60KVA machine.


Diwali 4th October 2009

Fast forward one week and the same team and equipment were in place late Saturday night ready for Diwali in the Square, an extravagant cultural event bringing Diwali to Trafalgar square.

Diwali in the Square transformed Trafalgar Square with vibrant Diwali celebrations, including traditional light displays, floating lanterns and colourful Diwali decorations. The event lived up to expectations and transformed Trafalgar Square in traditional Indian style.

As well as lights and decorations, a full programme of performances featured including a mixture of traditional and contemporary music and dance. This year's highlights included the chance to take part in a traditional circular dance known as the Garba accompanied by live music from Asian band Shama and Friends, and performances of Bollywood hits from the Trafalgar Square stage.
